Quick Guide

  • Steps are the core movement purchase — you buy them with Cash to extend the staircase down the pit.
  • Step prices rise with depth: every layer you reach makes further steps more expensive.
  • Falling is safe: slip off the stairs and you return to where you fell. No Cash or progress is lost.
  • Keep your Cash income scaling with step prices or the descent stalls between layers.

How Buying Steps Works

In Depth Incremental you do not climb down freely — you purchase each stretch of stairs with Cash. Buying steps is the first mechanic the tutorial teaches, and it stays the backbone of progression for the entire game: every layer, boss, and fossil room sits at a depth you reached by paying for stairs.

The purchase itself is simple: pay the listed price at the pit and the stairs extend downward. The developer has not published an official step price table — prices scale upward as you descend, which is why Cash upgrades matter more than raw Cash totals.

When the price walls up

If the next step price feels like a wall, that is the game telling you to raise Cash income. See the Upgrade Trees for which lines pay for themselves fastest.

Keeping the Descent Cash-Positive

  1. Open the Upgrades room earlyThe first door costs 250 Cash. Inside are Faster Cash, More Cash, and Walk Speed — the trio that funds every later step.
  2. Scale income before depthWhen step prices jump at a new layer, pause and upgrade Cash generation before pushing further.
  3. Add fossils as a second incomeThe DIRT FOSSILS room (2,000 Cash unlock, 250 Cash per dig) turns Luck into value — the Fossils Guide covers the loop.
  4. Rebirth when the wall winsWhen even upgrades cannot outpace step prices, a Rebirth resets the climb with permanent strength — see How to Rebirth.

Falling, Bosses, and Layer Walls

Falling off the stairs is painless: you respawn where you slipped. The real gates between layers are the bosses — each layer has one, and depth beyond it opens only after the fight. If a boss blocks your next batch of steps, the All Bosses lists what is confirmed so far and how to prepare.

Safe falls

Falling returns you to your position — never a full reset. Depth is kept.

Pricier steps

Every layer raises step prices. Budget upgrades between pushes.

Boss gates

Each layer ends in a boss fight that unlocks the next depth.

Rebirth relief

Stalled income is the signal to rebirth, not to grind.

Buying Steps FAQ

Do steps get more expensive?

Yes. Step prices scale upward with every layer you reach, which is why Cash upgrades and eventually Rebirth are core to long runs.

What happens if I fall off the stairs?

You return to the spot where you fell. Nothing is lost — not Cash, upgrades, or depth progress.

Can I buy steps without Cash?

Steps are purchased with in-game Cash. Community trackers report optional Robux passes such as 2x Cash (around R$249) that raise how fast you earn it — prices can change, so check the in-game Shop.
